Robin Sena and Amon, from Witch Hunter Robin. Those who've seen the series and love these two characters can read into this any way they choose, especially if you have an over-analytical mind like me ^_^ I have much I could say about the different possible things this could symbolize, including the pillar and the title of the picture itself, but I'd like to hear what you other WHR fans see in it.

Of course, I want to know what other people think too. (....does his head look too small....??)

One of the major problems I see with this picture? You can't see Amon's whiskers! I love Amon-whiskers!! (that reminds me - what's kind of ironic about this is that, when doodling out scenes from "The Disappearing Life", in which Amon lets a beard grow in for a few chapters, I'd always forgo drawing the extra facial hair because he looked too much like Jesus @_@) I'm proud of his pants ^^ I pretty much did the wrinkles blindly, as opposed to Robin's voluminous skirts, because in the sculpture ... he dunt got none, obviously. I guess I could have drawn Amon with only a limp piece of cloth hanging around his hips, but I didn't think that would have made much sense in WHR context (sorry, Rakshar ;))

The picture's done enirely in pencil, with no Photoshop-effects whatsoever (in case you couldn't tell ;P), save having to put the four scanned chunks together (this pic is big). Enjoy :D

you got the instafave when you said "analyze".

ANALYSIS! what i see:
The virgin Mary is the depiction of the Great Mother, the mythological symbol of love, creation, and promise. Lover of the hero (not sexually, meaning "cares for") she is both the reason for the heros quest as well as the countering influence of the Terrible Father (here, that would be Zaizen).
Robin was the interplay of both the Terrible Mother (chaos and destruction) and the Great Mother, as her personal quest as hero was to amalgamate the two sides - shadow and self respectively - and integrate her personality. In the series, she had done so by accepting her fate and denying hedonistic power.

The divine son - origionaly jesus in the pieta - also has a dialectic persona he is both the hero, the savior, and at te same time, his own adversary (possibley the devil). The hero, in his heroic acts, destroys the Terrible father, taking on the persona of the Terrible mother as destruction, yet by bringing change into the system of the Terrible Father (tyranny, sultification) has taken the role of Great Mother. the change he brings inturn becomes the Great Father (order with freedom) or Terrible Father depending on this new persona.
Amon was the hero who faught between the Great and Terrible fathers. It is clear by the end of the series, he had amalgamated the two, by allowing Robin to live (Great Father) but warning her of his willingness to kill her (Terrible father).

The hero must go through the process of descent and asscent into and from chaos - must deconstruct and reconstruct their personality, and by doing so obtaingin knowledge tha allows one to change one's surroundings or even culture.

Amon's personality was never fully integrated - the contradictions in his acts and incongruencies in his actions proves such. This means that one cannot stand before the chaos of ones own actions, because one is not whoole with all their parts; they will fall apart.
Robin's personality had always been integrated which is why she stayed true despite her "trial by fire".
Amon's story was about descent and ascent, Robin's was about value system and belief.

The pillar is concrete, almost eternal do to it's structure of stone (representing sturdy longevity). It's vertical structure represents a conduit with the heavens; the pillar reaches toward the sky in it's grand fashion.

To the Picture:
In her position of Great Mother, Robin is Nurturing the wounded Hero, a symbol of promise. The promise is shown through her calmness and even temperance. The hero (who is now at descent) will rise once more as the divine son. His "dead" position is a symbol of his decomposition, yet he is resting in the hands of the Great Mother (promise, hope).
While Robin is Amon's hope (of seeing the truth and accepting it) Amon is also Robin's saviour (in that his change thorugh her will prove her self as "Great" not "Terrible").
In the picture, it is much the beacon sent downward from heaven (Robin/Great Mother) as much as it can be seen as the attempt of ascent toward heaven (Amon/hero/divine son).
It's position helps accentuate the moment; it acts to encompass or pinpoint a moment in time to accentuate a certain scene due to it's structured visibility, as well as symbolize the dialectic between robin and amon in their relationship.

To the Art:
5 lines for her mouth eyes nose and you make her look even temprent. How do you conjure an expression in 5 lines? i can't draw a LINE in 5 lines. :worship: The posture and gesture reflect the patience and divine caring. The emotion and affect are certainly within the image. The shading you used exemplifies the divine quality, and draws the eye toward her face and expression - wonderful use of technique.
Amon's head is not too small. it's lolling back. And what's fabulous is the weight of his head and the contures of his body were perfectly depicted: there is a feel for his "limpness" (AND NOT IN THAT OTHER WAY HE IS A HUMAN STUD!!!:hump:).
Both postures exemplify on volume - this is not a "flat" image. The interaction between the characters is flawless. even her hand underneath his arm, despite differentially coloured is still within the image; there is clear interaction between her grasp and his side. The folds in the drapery (dear god, you do drapery too? :jawdrop:) not only have volume quality, but are flowing and resemble and quality of real cloth.
And then, you go and draw stone. So i'm left to conclude between the cloth and stone and flesh that you are a master of texture aswell. :worship:

:tears: no Amon whiskers? but... but... they're Amon Whiskers. Granted i don't think he should have a beard - Japanese men hardly have body/facial hair. I thought the whiskers were a result of him being "mixed" (Nagira did say he was "american looking" or something of the sort - i assumed their father was probably a caucassian man, hence the whiskers on both of them). But whiskers are whiskers.

Apology accepted, but for future refrence, nowhere in mythology or in it's interpretation does it state that the hero or divine son can't be in a loin cloth. Go ahead and draw that in if you like. Not detriminal to the interpretation at all, no siree.

Overall, an awe-inspiring image. If michaelangelo were alive today, i think he would have been flattered.

:worship: :winner: :w00t:
